Villa manager Gerard Houllier has hailed the fighting spirit of his squad after their late winner against Blackpool - but bemoaned their swelling list of casualties.

James Collins' 89th-minute winner in the 3-2 triumph handed Villa their first Premier League win in six - just two minutes after former Birmingham striker DJ Campbell had pulled the Seasiders level for a second time.

The win was offset by news of injuries to Carlos Cuellar (calf) and Habib Beye (ankle), taking Villa's list of crocked victims to eight.

But Houllier was delighted by the way his team are pulling together.

He said: "The positive thing is that twice they equalised but we managed to keep our heads up and go for the winner.

"Our first-half was dreadful but the second period was much better because we took more responsibility, created more chances and played a more exciting game. The players have to forget about the scoreboard.

"Results are my responsibility, the players are responsible for the game."

On the injuries, he added: "Carlos had a calf twinge. I don't think he will be available for Manchester United but he might be available for Blackburn.

"Habib twisted his ankle in the warm-up."
