Transfer business 2020 results: Wolves, West Brom and Aston Villa fans have their say
Wolves fans believe the club is destined for another top half Premier League finish, a new poll reveals.
In a poll conducted by the Express & Star, 1,020 Wolves fans voted for their thoughts on the transfer window after the deadline for international signings passed.
Clubs can still sign players in this country until 5pm on October 16, but not from other Premier League clubs.
Although the results were somewhat split on how happy supporters were with the window, 34 per cent believed it could have been better.
Alongside that, 28 per cent were satisfied, 24 per cent thought it was reasonable and 10 per cent felt it was excellent business. Only four per cent were left completely unhappy.
Despite that, 68 per cent of fans still believe Wolves will finish in the top half of the table, but not the top six, with none voting that the club will be relegated.
Twenty-one per cent believe the club will finish in the bottom half of the table but will be safe from relegation, while 11 per cent voted for the top six.
Nelson Semedo was dubbed the most important signing after his move from Barcelona, with 77 per cent of the vote.
Fernando Marcal was second in the poll with 10 per cent.
As a result, 51 per cent still believe the midfield needs strengthening the most urgently, followed by 26 per cent for defence and 23 per cent for attack.
Meanwhile, Albion fans have been left despondent with their transfer dealings as the majority of fans are already resigned to Premier League relegation.
Of the 550 fans that voted, an 67 per cent stated they are not at all happy with the club’s transfer dealings.
Only one per cent branded the business ‘reasonable’ as another 32 per cent expressed that the window could have been better.
The biggest disappointment for fans has been the movements in the forward areas, with 59 per cent of supporters believing their attack still needs strengthening – the Baggies remain linked with a number of targets from the Championship.
Of the remaining positions, 29 per cent said defence needs strengthening the most, eight per cent said midfield and four per cent said goalkeeper.
In terms of the overall effect the coronavirus pandemic had on the club’s transfer business, the supporters were split – 50 per cent thought it had little or no impact on the Baggies’ dealings, while the other half thought it had some or great effect.
The fans were not split on the final question, regarding where they expect the side to be at the end of the current season.
A majority of 81 per cent believe that the club will be relegated, while 19 per cent believe they will finish in the bottom half but survive. Not fans voted for the top half of the table or the top six.
For the 150 Villa fans that voted, they were much happier with their business as 80 per cent branded it excellent, while 20 per cent were satisfied.
Keeping Jack Grealish was seen as the most important piece of business, with 56 per cent, closely followed by Ollie Watkins on 28 per cent. Following a relegation battle last year, 66 per cent of fans now believe the club can make the top half, but not the top six, while nine per cent have backed Villa to break into the top six.
n Saddlers results will be run at the close of the domestic transfer window on October 16.
