Rivals are struggling to land a blow on Wolverhampton Casuals
Wolverhampton Casuals will be ready to rumble again tonight as they bid to extend the best defensive record in the country.
Casuals have shipped in just four goals in 15 West Midlands League Premier Division games this season, which is the fewest conceded in the top 10 tiers of English football.
It’s a record manager Dean Gill and his players are rightly proud off and they will be looking for a 13th league clean sheet when they host Dudley Sports tonight.
“There are 1,400 teams in the pyramid and we have conceded the fewest number of goals,” said Gill.
“I was trying to explain to someone the other day what it feels like and the best analogy I could come up with was a boxing one.
“The art of boxing is to hit and not get hit, and that’s what it is like.
“If we can score a couple of goals, win the game and not concede, then the opposition haven’t laid a glove on us.
“It’s like a badge of honour to the lads now. But it also becoming like a badge of honour for opposition sides to score against us.
“We have rode our luck at times, but we have defended well.
“Our goalkeeper, Brad Clarkson, is only 17 and he has done really well.
“He is a very good keeper and has a really good temperament. He is very relaxed and calm.
“We only carry five defenders and the lads are obviously very proud of the record. They are probably more proud about it than I am.”
Cassies recorded another shut-out at the weekend against Wem Town, and struck six times at the opposite end courtesy of Kyle Brady (two), Jake Webb (two), Jack Till and Karen Danilian.
Bilston Town also found the net six times away to Cradley Town, with hosts netting one in reply.
Darlaston Town slipped to a 2-1 reverse at home to AFC Bridgnorth despite taking the lead through Ricardo Ricketts.
Justin Nisbett and Mitch Lawley bagged the goals that earned Dudley Town a 2-0 win at home to Wolves Sporting.
Black Country Rangers host Atherstone in the Birmingham Midweek Floodlit Cup tonight while Wednesfield travel to Cadbury Athletic.
