Kris Taylor is hoping Walsall Wood can ‘bounce back quickly’ in their next fixture to keep the pressure on Midland Premier leaders Coventry United, writes Naryan Branch.

The fourth-placed side are four points behind the table-toppers, but have four games in hand, and are hoping to stay in touch by completing the double over 15th-placed Tividale tomorrow (3pm).

The Wood’s joint-boss Taylor is ambitious about his side’s title challenge this season and is hoping to return to winning ways after suffering a shock 3-0 defeat at second-bottom Gresley last time out.

He said: “Against Gresley, everything that could have possibly gone wrong did go wrong. There were injuries, suspensions and decisions that went against us and to be fair Gresley were bang at it.

“We have to bounce back quickly if we have aspirations to be in contention (for promotion) by the end of the season. Whether it’s 1-0, 2-0 or 3-0 – the results don’t matter, as long as we get three points.

“Our goal from day one was to win the league and we’ll continue to try and push to win it.

“Like many teams, we’re in a reasonable position and we just need to try and kick on.

“We can’t look at the league table or previous performance against any sides. We simply have to perform on the day otherwise we’ll get beat, we have to apply ourselves and the table really doesn’t mean anything.

“Every team in this division is tough to play against and Tividale are difficult, every game is difficult, but we’ll have to go out there and apply ourselves to get the win.”

Elsewhere in the league, Sporting Khalsa can secure top spot heading into Christmas if they are able to overcome seventh-placed Newark Flowserve and Coventry United drop points against Racing Club Warwick.

Twelfth-placed AFC Wulfrunians host sixth-placed Stourport Swifts, with both sides looking to climb the congested table, which sees the top eight sides separated by just eight points.

Third-bottom Lye Town entertain mid-table Worcester City and can ease relegation fears by catapulting into 14th with a victory.

In Division One, third-placed Brocton will be hoping to close the gap on Leicester Road at the top of the table to eight points in their home fixture against Ashby Ivanhoe.

Second-bottom Stafford Town have a mouth-watering six pointer away to bottom side Nuneaton Griff, while Heath Hayes entertain Kirby Muxloe in a mid-table encounter between 12th and 11th.
