Waterfield shone as the Coseley-based outfit picked up a fifth league win, seeing off local rivals AFC Sporting Gornal 4-2.

This latest success also enabled Rangers to swap places with AFC Sporting, who have an inferior goal difference.

Daniel Mills rounded off Sedgley’s scoring while Owen Harris responded with a brace.

Cannock United consolidated a mid-table spot with a hard-fought 4-3 away-day success at Coseley FC.

Yet Cannock let slip a 3-1 advantage early in the second period as battling Coseley pegged them back at 3-3 before the former grabbed maximum points.

Doubles from Joe Taylor and Josh Bradley clinched a fourth league success for United, with Luke Ellis, Josh Cater and Jonah Mundle pushing them close.

Missed opportunities proved costly for reigning champions Claregate Park Rangers as they bowed out of the Birmingham FA Sunday Amateur Cup at the third-round stage.

Claregate twice led through Kane Lewis and a Chadd Birch penalty against visiting Warley Sunday outfit Netherton Libs, who survived several scares before eventually securing a 5-2 triumph.

The quarter-final pairings in this season’s flagship NDT Midlands Lester Charity Cup became a little clearer as three further second round ties were completed.

Causing an upset were Paycare side Dudley Rangers. They got the better of an understrength top tier Codsall Station, running out 4-2 winners.

On the mark for Dudley were Joe Snipe, with a double blast, Sam Collier and Tyler Charris, with Liam Davies and Robin Davies replying for Codsall, who also hit the woodwork twice.

Top-flight outfit Shere Punjab Wolves also made the last eight with a thrilling 4-3 win at Gornal Rangers as Harpreet Sangha fired a hat-trick, supported by Karzan Greazy. Keeping things close were the Gornal trio of Chris McNulty, Jack Malpass and Dan Woodward.

Paycare promotion contenders Wyrley Athletico gave a good account of themselves against a strong top-flight Sedgley & Gornal United side.

However, goals either side of the interval from Tom Timmins and Rion Francis-Mills saw United progress 2-0.

The draw for the quarter-finals of the Lester Charity Cup has handed Concentric Property Beacon Championship high-flyers Sedgley & Gornal United a home tie with AFC Dormston Over-

30s.

The only other confirmed match-up sees Shere Punjab Wolves welcome Trysull Tigers.
