Leaders Walsall Wood happy with their squad game for cup
Walsall Wood joint-boss Kris Taylor has praised the healthy competition in his squad ahead of tonight’s Staffordshire Senior Cup tie away to Chasetown.
Wood remain top of the Midland Premier after a Lewis Hayden brace secured a 2-1 win at Boldmere St Michaels on Saturday.
But focus now switches to the cup and Taylor eyes a start tonight for midfielder Lee Butler, who made an impression off the bench against Boldmere.
“Butler came on and did very well on Saturday,” he said. “So he’s earned a probable spot in the team tonight.
“Lee’s had to be patient but he’s been exactly that and it speaks volumes of him as a player.
“They’re the sort of people you want in the squad, players that are ready to go when they’re called upon.”
Elsewhere in the division, goals from Mensah Kinch, Jake Gosling and James McGrady saw Sporting Khalsa win 3-1 at home to Long Eaton United.
Aaron Bishop scored the only goal of the game as AFC Wulfrunians won away at Heather St John’s.
The Wulfs visit Selston in the league tomorrow night.
However, Lye Town fell to a 2-0 defeat at Romulus and Tividale sunk to a 3-1 loss away to Highgate United.
The Dale will look to bounce back tonight away at Sikh Hunters in the JW Hunt Cup.
Meanwhile, a Dean Williams hat-trick helped Heath Hayes record a 6-1 home win over Stafford Town in Midland Division One.
Rhys Horton, Matthew Allport and Todd Sherwood were also on target for Hayes.
Brocton came from behind to win 3-1 at home to GNP Sports.
Jack Partridge and Cam Howkins scored either side of an own goal to secure all three points.
In the West Midlands Premier, Bilston Town won 5-2 at home to Wem Town.
Debutant Ryan Booth bagged a brace for Wayne Spicer’s side.
Jamie Elkes, Sam Melia and Kevin Nickle grabbed the other goals for the Steelmen.
But, Cradley Town fell to a 6-0 home defeat to Pershore Town and Darlaston Town lost 2-1 at home to Littleton.
