Hurst replaced fellow ex-Wolves manager Mick McCarthy at Portman Road in the summer.

But the former Shrewsbury chief was sacked yesterday having won just one of his 15 competitive games.

The 44-year-old was in charge of the Tractor Boys for just 149 days.

Following the sacking, Lambert became odds-on with bookmakers to take charge of the side bottom of the Championship. The Scotsman is available after leaving Stoke by mutual consent back in May.
