Sean Craig selected to play for England
Sean Craig has hit the bullseye after being selected to play for England at the Junior World Cup of Darts in Gibraltar.
The 16-year-old from Cannock earned the call-up after being ranked fourth for England Under-18s.
He will be a part of a four-man ‘England Allstars’ team, playing alongside fellow young talents Henry Coates, Mitchell McCarthy and Joe Pitchford Morris.
Craig is also a part of the darts academy at his local pub, The Duck in Chadsmoor, which has been run for the last two years by George Coulter.
Coulter is delighted – but not surprised Craig has been picked:
“He’s the best player in the team,” he said. “Every week he is the best scorer so it’s no surprise really.”
Craig, who is a member of the Junior Darts Corporation, is feeling confident ahead of the trip to Gibraltar. The competition runs from September 24 to 26.
“I’m feeling pretty confident about the tournament – I have a really good feeling about it,” said Craig, who has just completed his GCSEs at Chase High School in Cannock.
After numerous tournaments across three days, the Junior World Darts final will be held at the Alexandra Palace in London on Saturday, December 21.
The competition will consist of 15 other countries, including the likes of USA, India and Australia.
Although he has been playing since he was 13, things started to take off for Craig at the end of last year when he joined the JDC, with some impressive performances seeing him to make a name for himself.
