Jamie Hughes edged out in final of BDO Open
Tipton’s Jamie Hughes reached the final of the Winmau BDO Wolverhampton Open yesterday, but was beaten 6-2 by Scot Ross Montgomery.
The 31-year-old, who was born in West Bromwich, beat Graham Elvidge, Joshua Richardson, Nick Kenny from Wales, and Glen McGrandle from Scotland en route to the final at Wolverhampton Indoor Community Sports Centre on Racecourse Road.
But Montgomery proved one step too far for the World Championship semi-finalist.
Telford’s Ted Hankey, known as ‘The Count’, reached the second road of the 32-man tournament but lost to Kyle McInstry.
On Saturday, reigning BDO world champion Glen Durrant won the Wolverhampton Classic, beating Liam Kelly 6-2 in the final. There were more than 130 entrants. For the first time this year, there were BDO ranking points up for grabs at the category B events, which had a total prize fund of £10,000.
