Mark Jones sees off name-sake Wayne in PDC

The PDC 'kept up with the Joneses' in the first run of the latest Players Championship events as Brierley Hill's Mark saw off Wolverhampton's Wayne.

Mark's 6-5 last leg victory over his local rival, some 29 places above him in the Order of Merit, came in the first round at Wigan's Robin Park Centre.

They met in the opening phase of Saturday's competition but that was as far as Mark went, losing 6-4 to Keegan Brown in the second round on Saturday.

Both Jones' suffered first round exits in yesterday's tournament, Mark 6-4 to Matthew Edgar while Wayne was defeated 6-4 by Kenny MacNeil.

Meanwhile, Mark Hylton maintained his position of 36th in the Order of Merit despite a rough weekend in the Players Championship.

'Mile High' - a former airline cabin crew manager - won just a leg in two matches over the weekend, which came on Saturday.

But it didn't derail his opponent, Keegan Brown, who won 6-1, while world No 15 Paul Nicholson whitewashed him 6-0 in the first round yesterday.

Stourbridge's Nick Fullwell picked up £500 and maintained his position of joint 68th in the Order of Merit after two first-round wins.

'The Hero' needed last leg deciders to progress on both Saturday and Sunday but squeezed into the money stages of both tournaments.

Fullwell first beat John Bowles 6-5 but couldn't keep up with Darren Webster, who beat him 6-3, before seeing off Ross Smith 6-5 in yesterday's opening game.

Kenny MacNeill handed him another defeat with a comprehensive 6-2 victory over the 43-year-old in the second round.

Young Wednesbury darter Matthew Dicken experienced two first round exits competing in the 'seniors,' the latest stops of the Players Championship.

Dicken did manage to push stalwart Swede Magnus Caris to a last leg decider before bowing out 6-5, leaving him pinning his hopes on yesterday's event.

He, again, had chances of his own to win the game but suffered another first round exit, this time 6-4 to Dan Russell, and left with nothing after missing the money stages.

Jamie Caven won both of the weekend's events, the Derby darter beating Paul Nicholson on Saturday and Dutchman Jelle Klaasen yesterday, both 6-4.
