That is the question after England’s defeat to Australia in the first Ashes Test.

A brilliant match nevertheless ended in agonising fashion for the hosts, though skipper Ben Stokes sought to mitigate the disappointment with the fact his team had entertained.

“Everyone would have been on the edge of their seats, glued to the TV. That’s how we want to be remembered as a team,” he told the BBC. “That’s the great thing about not being a results-driven team.”
