Olly Stone out for a month injured

Warwickshire have been dealt a blow after Olly Stone was ruled out for a month with a side strain.

The injury, sustained in last week’s season opener against Northamptonshire, is set to rule the England seamer out of the Bears remaining four group games in the Bob Willis Trophy.

Stone took 4-39 and looked in excellent form during the first innings but bowled only three overs in the second after reporting discomfort in his side, with a subsequent scan revealing a low grade strain.

The 26-year-old is highly regarded by England’s selectors and made his Test debut against Ireland last summer. But his progress has frequently been blighted by injury and his latest is a considerable blow for the Bears, who continue their Trophy campaign away to Gloucestershire in a four-day match starting tomorrow.

Henry Brookes, Craig Miles and Liam Norwell are all vying to replace Stone as the visitors target their first victory off the season, having drawn with Northants.
