Adam Finch swoops in to take six wickets in thumping victory
A blistering spell from Worcestershire paceman Adam Finch helped Wolverhampton claim a thumping 180-run win over Oswestry.
Finch took 6-39 as the visitors were dismissed for just 71 inside 22 overs, Joe Stanley also picking up two wickets.
Will Nield’s unbeaten 103 from just 99 balls had earlier seen Wolverhampton, who have now taken two wins from their opening three matches in Group One of the Graham Williamson Trophy, rack up 251-5 from their 40 overs. Charlie Home chipped in with 74 as he and Nield shared in a 194-run fourth-wicket stand.
Walsall now sit alone at the top of Group Two after extending their 100 per cent record with victory over previously unbeaten West Bromwich Dartmouth.
Visitors Dartmouth included England international Pat Brown in their team for the first time this season and he made a swift impact, removing home opener Amit John cheaply.
But Walsall skipper Danny Cox’s patient 63 provided the innings with some stability and a 93-run third-wicket partnership with James Middleton (40) helped his team post a testing total of 186.
It proved more than enough as, in reply, Dartmouth found the going tough. Tom Brown, who finished unbeaten on 36, was the only batsman to pass 20 as the visitors were bowled out for 142 to lose by 44 runs, Walsall’s Luke Stynes finishing with figures of 4-29.
Jamie Lunn and Ben Robinson claimed three wickets apiece to help Himley record their first win of the season. The duo’s efforts saw Pelsall dismissed for just 156, with home skipper Ollie Westbury then hitting an unbeaten 68 to see his team home by seven wickets.
Smethwick remain well in contention after making it two wins from three courtesy of a strong showing at Harborne.
Omar Masood top scored with 68 as the visitors compiled 233-8 from their 40 overs, a total which proved beyond the hosts who were bowled out for 220.
Former Warwickshire spinner Sunny Singh took three wickets for Smethwick, who were always just about in control of a well-fought contest.
Halesowen sit top of Group Four after three matches following an impressive 24-run win at Barnt Green. In a match which might have gone either way, the key contribution came from Charlie Hartley who, arriving at the crease with the visitors 166-8, smashed 45 from just 21 balls to help them post a total of 219-9 which proved just out of the home side’s reach.
Eddie Rhodes then starred for Halesowen with the ball, his three wickets including the dangerous Ed Pollock (15) and Will Baker. The latter top scored with 48 for Barnt Green, who finished on 195-9.
Kidderminster made it two wins from three with a thrilling 12-run win over previously unbeaten Barnards Green.
It was a victory which looked unlikely when Kidderminster had struggled to 167-9 and the visitors sat on 145-4, seemingly in complete control. But when Matt Pardoe then removed Phil Harris, it sparked a remarkable collapse.
Chris Steele was the hero, claiming four wickets in quick succession, including that of Oliver Rogoff (66) as Barnards Green lost their last six for just 10 runs and were bowled out for 155.
