Tahir haul can’t save Old Hill from latest defeat

Old Hill’s miserable start to life in the Worcester League continued with an agonising one-wicket defeat to Astwood Bank.

Naqaash Tahir continued his impressive start to the year with a five-wicket haul, taking his tally so far to 18 in three matches.

But it still wasn’t enough. Having made 149-9 batting first, thanks largely to Qasim Shah’s 54, Old Hill were unable to defend the target as Astwood Bank edged home despite Tahir’s heroics.

Opener Jujhar Johal smashed a superb century to help Stourbridge earn a winning draw at Old Elizabethans.

Johal’s 141 from 131 balls included seven sixes and ensured Stour posted a challenging 255-5 from their 50 overs.

In response, the hosts were quickly reduced to 29-4 but eventually recovered to finish 138-8, with Jitesh Jivan-Patel taking 5-31 for Stour, who sit sixth in the early season table.

Hagley slipped to a 67-run defeat at Colwall in Division One, while Pedmore defeated Oldswinford and Stourbridge Social by 42 runs.

After being bowled out for 168, they dismissed the visitors for 126.
