Change will be a plus on and off the field – Phazey
Milford’s Stuart Phazey has welcomed the new-look league set-up and believes it will improve relations throughout the cricketing community.
A busy winter has seen Milford strengthen their ranks with the arrivals of Rob Evans, Waqar Saleem, Ejaz Nawaz, Ibbadat Thaman and Sahal Malvernkar.
And skipper Phazey is now looking forward to getting under way.
“The changes are a real positive in my eyes,” he said.
“Playing the Birmingham League last year we were travelling everywhere. Shropshire, Staffordshire, Rugby, we were all over the place.
“Now all the games are on our doorstep which is a huge plus. I think it will encourage a bit more social interaction. Last season, after a game, the travelling team would get in the shower and look to get home.
“But I think people will stick around a bit now. It will create a close-knit community and in-turn that will lead to a really competitive local league.”
With the changes to the league format, Phazey admits it’s hard to set aims for the new season.
“Top six is the aim but if we put a run together I believe we can finish top four,” he added.
“We’ve had brought in some quality players but they are also very young.
“I think after a few games everything will settle down and then we can really assess where we are and what we want to achieve.”
