Stourbridge hit summit at perfect time
Stourbridge snatched the Birmingham & District League Division Three title from Rugby.
Knocked off the top by their title rivals last week, Stour took full advantage of Rugby’s final-day slip-up against Newport to leapfrog them back to the summit.
All six bowlers – led by Daniel Such – took wickets as Stourbrisge bowled opponents Stratford-upon-Avon out for 150.
And their title was secured thanks to a pair of half-centuries from Jujhar Johal (54) and Matthew Bradley (50), as well as 29 not out from Mavarick Perry.
Wolverhampton watched Berkswell be crowned champions as they were condemned to bottom place in the Premier Division.
Wolves were bowled out for 217 chasing 334-6, with opener Aneesh Kapil (85) top-scoring, and will be playing Division One cricket next season.
Elsewhere in the Premier Division, there were wins for Smethwick, Walsall and West Bromwich Dartmouth. Amrinder Barr struck an unbeaten 148 in Smethwick’s win over Shrewsbury; Bruce Thomason (86), Alex Mellor (71) and Billy Cox (4-28) starred in Walsall’s victory against Barnt Green; while Andrew Umeed’s 117 guided West Brom past Moseley.
Division One champions Kidderminster lost at Bromsgrove, while Ed Kilbee (101) helped Halesowen beat Himley.
Cannock & Rugeley Hawks secured second place in Division Two with a 42-run win over Wombourne.
However, they will not be promoted because their ground failed a Birmingham League audit earlier this summer.
Saqib Akbar (67) top-scored as Hawks posted 226 all out.
Their bowlers then shared the wickets around to bowl Wombourne out for 184. Ben Thomas took 3-31, Ben Hudson 2-37 and Will Cook 2-45. There was also a wicket each for Tom Hudson and Jack Hussey, who also secured a run-out.
Streetly and Fordhouses both lost, but there was a win for Penkridge at Sutton Coldfield, with Rana Hassan (85) top-scoring.
