Former Shropshire all-rounder Joe Leach was among the wickets as Worcestershire set their sights on a crucial victory that would boost their promotion push.
The Pears went into the final day of their Division Two clash with champions elect Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge needing 103 runs for victory with eight wickets in hand.
Skipper Leach impressed with the ball, finishing with figures of 5-79 as Worcestershire finally overcame some stubborn resistance from their hosts.
Notts had started the day on 138-5 but managed to carve out a lead of over 200 thanks to Chris Read (38) and Jake Ball (34) before they were eventually dismissed for 275.
Opener Daryl Mitchell then ended the day on 63 not out, with Tom Fell falling for 30 just before bad light stopped play as the visitors reached 123-2 in their second innings.
Meanwhile, Warwickshire were slipping towards defeat in their Division One relegation clash with fellow strugglers Somerset at Edgbaston.
The Bears ended the day on 172-6 chasing a highly unlikely victory target of 402.
Former England batsman Jonathan Trott dug in for 74 before falling just before the close.
