Stand has Staffordshire on top
A huge fourth-wicket stand of 250 put Staffordshire in control after the first day of their Unicorns Championship Eastern Division match with Buckinghamshire.
Peter Wilshaw (144) and Tim Maxfield (130) each made centuries at High Wycombe to take the total past 300 from a perilous position of 52-3.
Maxfield’s quick-fire ton came off 88 balls and his whole innings, which only lasted 103 balls, including 11 fours and a whopping nine sixes.
His onslaught only came to an end when he skied a pull shot.
It was Wilshaw’s 11th century for Staffs, who were eventually bowled out for a mammoth 445 in the 89th over of their innings.
He was caught at long on trying to clear the rope for his 150.
Mitchell Spencer got the important wicket of threatening Bucks opener Mansoor Khan late last night and the hosts, who are searching for their first win of the season, finished on 38-1, leaving them 407 runs behind.
