Worcestershire held up by Jack Taylor
Worcestershire failed to press home their early advantage on the opening day of their County Championship Division two clash with Gloucestershire at Cheltenham.
After opting to bowl first, the Pears reduced their hosts to 87-4 at lunch but then saw Jack Taylor lead a recovery.
Taylor hit his fifth first class century as the hosts ended the day on 343-8.
Dropped on 16, the 25-year-old all-rounder, went on to 122-ball hundred and was still there at the close on 118, having hit 16 fours and a six.
Chris Dent (65) and Phil Mustard (50) were the other main contributors for the hosts. Ed Barnard was the pick of the Worcestershire attack with 4-67.
Worcestershire assistant coach Matt Mason said: “At 80-odd for four after the first session we were happy. We wanted to bowl first on the wicket because it was a bit greener than pitches usually are here.
“It looked a good decision at lunch, but there was frustration in not being clinical enough to finish off the job.”
