Worcestershire hit form as Ben Stokes suffers
England all-rounder Ben Stokes had a day to forget as Worcestershire adapted to the pink ball better than Durham in the County Championship match at Chester-le-Street.
He was out for a seven-ball duck as Durham crashed from 12 without loss to 18-5 before recovering to reach 197. Worcestershire replied with 213-4, three of the wickets going to England colleague Mark Wood as Stokes conceded 69 in 12 wicketless overs.
Teenager Josh Tongue impressed with the ball for the Pears with 4-41 while John Hastings picked up 3-49.
The visitors’ reply was built around a fine knock from Brett D’Oliveira.
He ended the day unbeaten on 91, gaining good support from Joe Clarke (45) amd Moeen Ali, who was unbeaten with 36 at the close of play.
