Milford Hall triumph on a 'tricky wicket'
Milford Hall skipper Chris Milward is upbeat after managing to win on a 'tricky wicket' at Cannock in the Staffs Clubs Championship.
After a disappointing loss to Beacon the week prior, Milford dismissed the home side for just 82 in 46.3 overs, with Qamar Abbas and Stuart Phazey leading the way as they took three wickets each.
With the bat, the visitors also struggled but successfully chased their target, ending 83-8 after 38.3 overs, after a fine display from youngster Aaron Afford who hit 38.
The result means Milford leap-frogged their opponents into second in the Premier Division, with Milward praising his side for their efficiency with the ball, and the bat, given the difficult wicket.
He said: "We won the toss on a tricky wicket, which had been affected by the rain in the week.
"We put them under pressure straight away, picked up a few wickets which was pleasing, and we were really efficient.
"I think it was a very difficult wicket too so I thought we batted well, both teams struggled but Aaron Afford saw us home.
"I have mentioned our youth set-up before, he has came through that and he had a great, real mature innings so we were indebted to him for that."
Beacon maintained top spot with an eight-wicket victory over Wednesbury.
Josh Henry had a good day at the office, with three maidens and four wickets from his 10 overs with the ball as Wednesbury were dismissed for 106 all out.
Beacon sealed the win in the 19th over and are now nine points clear at the top.
