Ross Edwards backing young Wombourne side to shine
Coach Ross Edwards is backing his young Wombourne side to shine but admits they must show more consistency.
Wombourne go to Oswestry tomorrow having won one and lost one in Division One after last week's defeat at Old Hill, when they were bowled out for 147 chasing just 180 to win.
Despite the result, Edwards was pleased with many aspects of the performance and will name an unchanged side for the trip to Shropshire.
"We have what we think is a promising side and we are going to back this side to come through," he said.
"We have played some good cricket and played some particularly good cricket against Old Hill. The game was essentially decided in a 15 over spell either side of drinks when they upped their game and sometimes you have to give credit to the opposition.
"All I ask now is that the players maintain those levels for longer.
"Rather than play well in spells we need to play well for the whole game."
Edwards has singled out bowler David Hemmings for particular praise after he claimed 1-16 in ten overs against Old Hill.
"I think a lot people realise Womboure is a young club and we want to give young players a chance," he said.
"David Hemmings is very much a Wombourne player and it's great to see him coming through and showing his potential."
Wolverhampton are eager to follow up on a weekend which felt like a major step forward when they tackle Ombersley tomorrow. Captain Simon Lycett will select an unchanged team after the Danescourt outfit finally got up and running after early frustrations with form and weather.
But the 17-run Division One defeat of Oswestry was followed 24 hours later by a Staffs Club success against Fordhouses which left Lycett a much happier skipper.
"They were two similar games and the team gave two similar performances – and after a couple of disappointing results, it felt like we made some big strides," he said.
"It now feels like we're in a good place and we have some momentum."
"It was obviously good to get a win under our belts against Oswestry."
