Brian Fisher delighted by Hammerwich's start to the season
Captain Brian Fisher says he is "chuffed to bits" by Hammerwich's strong start to the season.
The Burntwood Road club are top of the Premier Division, though they lost their 100 per cent record after being held to a winning draw at Coseley on Saturday.
But Fisher is excited by the bright start. "Don't get me wrong, I'm chuffed to bits," declared the skipper.
"It looks like we might be there or thereabouts this season. We are still yet to hit our peak."
Craig Jennings hit 70 for Hammerwich as the visitors made 186-5 from 50 overs, having been put in.
In reply, Coseley clung on at 121-9. Danny King claimed 4-33 for Hammerwich but they were unable to overcome a stubborn home side, for whom Stuart Jones top-scored with 26.
"Had I won the toss I'd have put them in and I'd have backed us to get the job done," added Fisher.
"These type of games are ultimately the ones which will decide matters come the end of the season. The club which wins the most will probably win the league."
Cannock fired a warning of their title credentials with a crushing eight-wicket win over Beacon – bowling out the visitors for just 49.
Ed Fleet claimed 6-29 as the visitors were skittled inside 22 overs. South African Richard Wissing was the only Beacon batsman to reach double figures.
James Fildes did claim two early scalps in Cannock's reply, but Anthony Sams hit 26 from just 17 balls as the hosts chased down the runs in little more than 11 overs.
Jack Warren scored a half-century for Lichfield as they breezed past Old Wulfrunians Tettenhall by 91 runs. Warren hit an unbeaten 51, while Dan Upward made 45 in Lichfield's 215-8. The hosts slumped to 19-5 before recovering some respectability thanks to Mathusunthan Rabindranath's 51. But Thomas Stone's 3-11 saw them all out for just 124.
