Stourbridge boxer Sam Eggington loses title after shock defeat

Stourbridge boxer Sam Eggington lost his European welterweight title after a shock defeat to Mohamed Mimoune on points.

Mimoune claimed victory on a split decision and after the fight Stourbridge favourite 'Savage' admitted he would have to move up a weight division to junior middleweight.

One judge scored the Manchester fight 116-112 in Eggington's favour but the other two judges gave it to Mimoune with scores of 115-113 and 116-112.

Eggington had won his previous four fights by knockout.

The 23-year-old said after the fight: "He definitely scored some clean shots, it was a fair decision. I'm not going to make any excuses, Mimoune was tricky and slippery and hats off to him."
