It's all going on for Craig Cunningham
Anthony Ogogo isn't the only thing Craig Cunningham has to contend with ahead of their clash in Birmingham on Saturday October 22.
It's been confirmed Cunningham and Olympic bronze medallist Ogogo will contest the vacant WBC International middleweight title,
The two go toe-to-toe at the Barclaycard Arena, live on Sky Sports, as promoters Matchroom return to the city for the third time in 17 months.
Cunningham, while a two-weight Midlands champion himself, is not fancied against the London 2012 star and unbeaten professional.
Ogogo, from Lowestoft in Suffolk, also boasts the backing of European boxing stable Sauerland and boxing legend Oscar de la Hoya.
Brummie Cunningham, who lives in Oldbury, is also waiting for a test of a different sort with his partner, Natalie, about to give birth to a daughter.
The father-of-one has ploughed into his training camp waiting for the phone to ring at any time, as she's now two weeks overdue.
The 28-year-old remains laid-back, though, and is refusing to be knocked out of his stride as he prepares for a fight he feels he simply had to take.
He said: "We are having a little girl and she's definitely one of mine, stubborn! I'll be the same in the ring, there's no way I'm going anywhere easily.
"I've been in the gym as normal, really, although I've been expecting a call. So far, it hasn't come but it will before the fight.
"The sooner, the better so we can get the baby settled and I can keep focussing on Ogogo. This is a huge opportunity for me.
"They might think this is an easy night for them, that all they've go to do is turn up to win the belt. It's down to me to prove otherwise.
"I've had my small hall brawls, now this is something I can really sink my teeth into. With his name, we'll be boxing live on Sky Sports, no doubt.
"I don't care about his record and his past achievements, to be honest, and he can't bring that into the ring with him.
"He'll want me to stand in front of him, he'll be sharp and fast but no one has ever knocked me out. I'm confident about my chin.
"I've got a good jab but I can't hide behind that, I'll have to take the fight to him and I'll be looking to do that in the later rounds.
"I'm the underdog and that suits me just fine, I fight better like that, but I'm not just here up to make the numbers."
Ogogo, 27, boxes for his first paid title after a stop-start pro career, where he's been hampered by injuries. He's recorded 11 wins from 11, with seven inside-the-distance.
Cunningham has featured on 17 occasions only ever losing to Tom Doran, in a three-round Prizefighter situation. He's had his hand raised 16 times, with three TKOs.
The southpaw had originally been offered a bout with Brian Rose, only for the former world title challenger's camp to refuse the match.
Rose instead wanted Rowley Regis' Jason Welborn, who lost the are super welter crown to Cunnningham on points. Welborn declined, as he's also soon to become a dad again.
Cunningham added: "I just don't think Rose wants to fight me. I said yes and it wasn't the first time he's been mentioned. You know what these superstars are like."
The top of the bill will see the long-awaited clash between Stourbridge's Sam Eggington and Birmingham's Frankie Gavin, for the WBC International title at welterweight.
Halesowen's Lennox Clarke - who was due to tackle Cunningham for area middleweight honours at the same venue last year - has yet to be matched.
There's suggestions that Clarke and Coventry's Joe Sherriff should contest the vacant Midlands super middleweight crown.
An all-Birmingham title fight will see Gamal Yafai defend his Commonwealth super bantamweight strap against English boss Sean Davis.
Two English titles will also be contested with a rematch for Don Broadhurst and Louis Norman, who drew for the flyweight crown. They now chase national prestige at super fly.
Midlands lightweight champion Marcus Ffrench could upgrade his standing if he can beat Central area counterpart Robbie Barrett for the division's area honours.
Midlands light welter titlist Andy Keates will also make his first area defence against the highly-rated prospect Jordan Cooke, a match that has been months in the making.
Further support bouts will provide action for Rose, Ryan Kelly, Cori Gibbs and Sam Bowen, with opponents to be confirmed.
