Eggington and Gavin could belt up for battle
Tickets went on general sale today for the long-awaited 'Battle of Birmingham' between Sam Eggington and Frankie Gavin - and there could be a title on the line.
The two welterweights are without honours to defend going into the main event at the Barclaycard Arena on Saturday October 22,
Stourbridge's Eggington lost his British and Commonwealth belts to Bradley Skeete in March, straps Brummie Gavin vacated for an unsuccessful shot at Kell Brook's IBF world crown.
Either the WBC International or WBC International Silver accolades, the latter a title Eggington relinquished without ever losing, is set to be on the line.
The full International spoils is the preferred choice, as it's contested over a 12 rather than 10 round distance, for the fight.
Both already have champions, with Charles Manyuchi the International boss and former Eggington victim Shayne Singleton the Silver titlist.
A deal could be reached for one to step aside, with Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn set to confirm more details at a press conference in Birmingham next Tuesday.
Matchroom will also reveal the under-card for the show, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports, to the media next week.
They hope West Midlands fight fans will turn out in their droves to see Gavin and Eggington finally touch gloves, a year later than expected.
The duo were all set to tackle each other at the same arena last October before Gavin withdrew citing a foot injury, with the rescheduled date coming 12 months and five days later.
Eggington, 22, said: "I'm delighted that the fight with Frankie is on again. I want to get that British title back and win it outright and I know that I need a good win to get back into contention.
"I can't wait to get in there with him. I'm not known for talking too much because I don't think you should trash talk, but Frankie's told people a few things about me and it's got my back up.
"I don't mind him having a go at the way I box, but he's mentioned some personal stuff about me and that's got me annoyed, so now I am going to punch him from pillar to post.
"There's no reason to get personal, maybe he's trying to do it to throw me off my game but it's going to backfire on him.
"If he's going to dig me out personally in interviews, then he's going to regret it because I'm going to do a job on him."
Gavin said: "I know Sam can punch and he's game. It's going to be a great fight, but it's one I'll win well, because the minute he gets in with a mover he struggles.
"Sam's a tough kid but, boxing-wise, he's technically poor. I'm very confident ahead of that fight. Once I beat Sam, I just want the big fights, that's the stage of my career I'm at.
"I'm only 30 (turns 31 next Wednesday) and I've still got another five or six years left in me."
