Tyson Fury on his way to Birmingham

Controversial world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury will be the feature attraction of a sportsman's dinner in Birmingham next month.

The reigning IBO, WBO and WBA 'super' titlist will take centre stage at the newly-opened Vox Centre on Friday February 19,

writes Craig Birch.

The Vox, part of Resorts World in the National Exhibition Centre, welcomes the man responsible for boxing's biggest upset of 2015.

Fury travelled to Germany last September and handed Wladimir Klitschko his first defeat in 11 years with a sensational points victory.

In front of a bewildered crowd, he then burst into song on the public address system to dedicate a tune to his pregnant wife Paris.

The 27-year-old Mancunian, from a travelling family, has since been stripped of the IBF crown he won on the night for not defending the belt against mandatory challenger Vyacheslav Glazkov.

He's contractually obliged to grant Klitschko a rematch first, an option the Ukrainian has taken up rather than retire, although a date has yet to be set.

A unification bout with WBC boss Deontay Wilder, along with fights against fellow Englishmen David Haye and Anthony Joshua, have also been mooted for this year.

But, for now, Fury stands tall as the most prolific heavyweight on the planet, with his comments on matters outside of the ring getting him into hot water.

He's been warned by the British Boxing Board of Control not to make "controversial non-boxing comments," after airing his views on sensitive matters publicly.

Now he's doing the after-dinner circuit and, as one of the characters of the sport, a night in his company is likely to be anything but dull.

Fury will be interviewed on the night by Telford's Richie Woodhall, the former WBC super middleweight champion and boxing pundit.

Standard tickets have all sold out but gold and platinum passes are still available, either per person or at a reduced rate for tables of 10.

Gold, costing £75, includes seating in the middle of the hall, a three-course meal and a photo opportunity, for an extra £20, with Fury.

VIP, at £150, includes 'premier' seating, the meal and the picture included in the price. Sponsorship packages are also available.
