Daniel's determined to make Dee-Day a Breeze
Bloxwich's Daniel Breeze today insisted he's ready for the step up when he boxes on the big Sky Sports bill in Birmingham.
The teenage welterweight competes at the Barclaycard Arena with the cameras on hand tomorrow night, for what will be just his fifth professional contest.
The 19-year-old could face his toughest test, too, after being paired for a four-rounder against capable veteran Dee Mitchell, writes Craig Birch.
Brummie Mitchell, who has now moved to Manchester, will be taking in his 88th paid bout at age 38 and has upset undefeated prospects along the way more than once.
They have shared a ring before - as occasional sparring partners at Jon Pegg's gym in the second city when Breeze was starting out.
And 'the Hurricane' is well aware of the threat posed if he's not at his best, as he looks to catch the eye of Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn.
Stable-mate Sam Eggington has a Commonwealth title shot at his weight on a bill that also features the likes of Anthony Joshua, Matthew Macklin and Brian Rose.
Breeze said: "I know what Dee can do, he's a great opponent and the things I picked up from training with him were useful.
"I know this is the fight where I need to show what I can do and how I am coming on as a pro. There's a lot that could go wrong.
"It's unusual for someone to be on a big show so young and there's going to be a lot of eyes on me, but that's what every boxer wants.
"This will bring out the best in me, I am determined to make this a night to remember and put myself on the map."
Around 300 supporters will be making the short trip to support the popular ticket-seller, with two coach-loads from Bloxwich.
The size of the card has made it an easy sell, with Breeze adding: "I admire a lot of the lads who I am sharing a bill with."
Tickets are still on sale priced at £40, £60 and £100 from www.barclaycardarena.co.uk. VIP passes costing £150 have been made exclusively available at www.matchroomboxing.com.
