No title fight for Luke Paddock but still a bout

Bloxwich's Luke Paddock will not make a first defence of his Midlands light welterweight title tonight - but he will still box.

Paddock was all set to defend his area crown against long-standing target Fergus Taylor at the Chase Leisure Centre in Cannock,

writes Craig Birch.

But Taylor has been ruled out of competing through complications with a routine brain scan and did not weigh in as planned yesterday.

That left Paddock without a bout after a long training camp but another Newark fighter, 'Fonz' Alexander Anderson, has filled the breach.

They will undertake a six-rounder with Paddock pitted against an adversary who is regarded as busy and game, despite an unflattering two wins out of 10 pro record.

Paddock, at least, has the incentive of taking his undefeated paid ledger into double figures with the area title intact, regardless of the result.

'Cool Hand' impressed by claiming the belt against Josh McLaren, who is also on the bill tonight, by points decision two months ago.
