Style over substance makes boxing a Breeze
Bloxwich's Daniel Breeze is going for style over substance when he undertakes his fourth pro contest in Aston Villa's Holte Suite.
The teenage welterweight has bashed away at his three paid opponents so far and won every round but has yet to score a stoppage,
But the 19-year-old isn't downbeat as he waits for his next four-rounder against Liam Griffiths tonight, with the tough journeyman taken out inside the distance just twice in 53 contests.
Breeze is focused on his boxing rather than blunt force as he gets valuable ring time under his belt and reckons, when he stops looking for it, the elusive TKO will probably come.
He said: "Liam is tough and that has been the case with most of the lads I have been in with. That's the sort of test you get from my camp.
"It's good to get the rounds under my belt, maybe that's more important than getting in with opponents I will just bowl over.
"I was never known as a puncher, anyway, even from the amateurs but I still won national titles. I just box my best and, at times, the stoppages will come.
"I am more about getting the job done now, the bedding in process of being a pro has gone now and I want to win fashionably."
'The Hurricane' turned over last year and splits his preparations between Jon Pegg's pro gym in Birmingham and his old amateur club, Walsall Wood.
Mentor Shaun Healy is still involved with most of his core fitness, while top-class tests come when he heads across the West Midlands.
Area champion Sam Eggington, from Stourbridge, and last weekend's middleweight Prizefighter finalist Cello Renda have come in the other corner of the training ring.
And Breeze is hoping for his own slice of the big-time by landing a spot on the big Sky Sports bill at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham, which will take place on Saturday May 9.
He said: "I have been lucky so far, Villa is a quality venue and the people that come to watch me love it there, the gym is booming at the minute and everyone is in a good place.
"I get top sparring with Sam and Cello, I am being pushed all of the time so I can't see me having any problems with opponents after that!
"Shaun knows the crack with getting me right through the basics at Walsall Wood, so I feel like I have got all bases covered.
"We won't think about the next fight until after this one, but it goes without saying it would be an unbelievable experience to box on that big bill in Birmingham.
"We will see what happens but I know I can sell tickets, so it could happen."
