Lee Glover handed Esham Pickering test
Tipton's Lee Glover has been handled a title tilt against decorated former champion Esham Pickering at Walsall Town Hall next month.
They top the bill on Saturday November 29, the same night as the much-anticipated heavyweight clash between Tyson Fury and Dereck Chisora, writes Craig Birch.
The Walsall card will finish in plenty of time for spectators to go and watch the battle of the Brits on television, with fans invited to the Pitch Sports Bar & Grill on Bridge Street.
Tickets to the Town Hall gain free entry into the after-show party around the corner, where the fight will be screened live on giant screens.
That's following an intriguing tussle between up-and-comer Glover and veteran Pickering, a former British, Commonwealth and European super bantamweight title holder.
The 38-year-old from Newark in Nottinghamshire steps back up to featherweight for this one and a shot at a yet-to-be decided belt over 10 rounds.
Glover will be more interested in the scalp of 'Brown Sugar,' a hugely-experienced adversary competing in the 46th contest of a 16-year pro career.
'The Tipton Slasher' is hoping to land a British title shot next year having challenged for the English crown, both Masters straps his haul from the paid ranks so far.
Promoter Errol Johnson said: "It promises to be another great night of boxing. By combining the two, it's the perfect night for fight fans.
"We wanted to make the most of the hype around Chisora and Fury, while showcasing what the Black Country boxing scene has to offer.
"After watching live boxing at the fantastic Walsall Town Hall, with a stacked card, fans can join the boxers who they have just been cheering on at the Pitch.
"After all, everyone wants to see the action between Britain's best heavyweights unfold."
Halesowen's Lennox Clarke is among the supporting acts, with the super middleweight also boxing in Gloucester next week.
Midlands super featherweight Troy James has been booked for a keep-busy fight, as he also targets the Lonsdale belt, while fellow Coventry fighter Joe Sheriff appears at cruiserweight.
Birmingham's Paul Holt will be looking to bounce back from his first paid defeat at super feather, while Tewkesbury's Adam Harper gets a second fight at light middle.
Home-town hero Martin Gethin, the former British lightweight champion, will also join supporters for a guest appearance.
