Des Bowater at the top of his game for Civic
Wolverhampton's Des Bowater has turned a negative into a positive as he prepares for home-town action at the Civic Hall next week.
The 22-year-old super featherweight boxes six rounds for the second time, but over three rather than two minute rounds,
'The Wednesfield Warrior' is set to step through the ropes with 'the Devil Child' Jamie Quinn on next Friday's fight night, feeling in the best shape of his career.
He's had time on his hands after losing his job as a builder recently, with his training upped as he looks for a new job, although sponsors CBS Wombourne are still helping out.
'D Bow' has been sparring with the likes of highly-rated Antonio Counihan and has sailed through the distance in each outing.
He said: "I have been out of work for the last couple of weeks, I got made redundant so I am looking for a new job and having some interviews.
"But, to be honest, it's given me a bit of a taste of what it's like to be boxing full-time. It makes you more dedicated, that's for sure.
"A lot of building work gets rained off at this time of year, anyway, and when I am not working I can train twice a day.
"It's, by far, the best I have felt before a fight, the results are definitely starting to show. Previously, I was getting tired in camp.
"I hasn't missed a single run or gym session, I have had the time to put more work in and not be cutting corners.
"I have been sparring the six rounds and, when I have finished, I still feel like I could do another four or five.
"It's the hardest I have ever trained in 14 years of boxing, so I know I am not going to lose."
Bowater had manager Errol Johnson watch Quinn box yesterday and is leaving nothing to chance, with the last embers of his fight camp now gearing towards his opponent.
The unbeaten home fighter will make it six straight victories with another 'W,' saying: "We are working on a bit of a game-plan for him now.
"It's a buzz to be fighting at the Civic, I always sell more tickets there and I am more than ready for this fight.
"I want one more six-rounder and then some sort of title fight. My training is paying off and, come fight night, everyone will see that."
