Road warrior Jamie Gelder to bring 'Danger'
Coseley's Jamie Gelder insists he will bring 'Danger' as a road warrior over the next month - with a fight against Tyson Fury's cousin on Channel Five to come.
Gelder could quadruple his pro experience between now and October 4, after making his professional debut with a points win over Kevin McCauley in May.
First comes a trip to Scotland tomorrow, where the 22-year-old super middleweight will box a four-rounder against the undefeated Brian Peacock at Paisley Leisure Centre.
And if Gelder, nicknamed 'Danger' from his days as an unlicensed boxer, is cut or stopped his big fight with Dempsey Fury, at Ponds Forge Arena in Sheffield on September 20, will be off.
It could also put a third bout against Stoke's Mark Till at Cannock's Chase Leisure Centre next month in doubt, but Gelder is adamant he can make a real name for himself with a hat-trick of victories.
He said: "Dempsey Fury doesn't scare me, he's had three fights and has only been winning by one round. He's tall and can punch but he's slow, so I think my speed will kill him.
"I am not frightened of his power, I have been in with heavyweights at white collar and lived with them. I would fight Tyson Fury if the money was right and they would let me!
"I have got to get through this fight in Scotland first and it's a risk. It will be a five hour drive to Scotland, box and then head straight back home.
"I know the only way I am going to win is to knock him out, so that's what I have got to do. Then it's Mark Till, who has been in with Dempsey and lost 39-38.
"He's after a win, so they are sticking him in with me and he's going to go for it, but I am not going anywhere to lose."
Gelder insists he will be able to call on substantial ring savvy from his days as an amateur at Priory Park Boxing Club and on the unlicensed circuit.
After 10 amateur bouts, he fought 57 times in six years and reckons he's fearless now. He's boxing full-time, trained by former national amateur finalist Jimmy Gould and managed by Mark Wall.
He said: "I don't really like the term journeyman, I like road warrior! But it's true that ticket sellers are fighting punchbags, who just want to hold and won't throw a thing back.
"I want to earn money, true, because boxing is my job now. I train every day with Jimmy at his gym and have dedicated to myself to the sport.
"I know how tough I am, I had 57 white collar fights and no one has ever knocked me out. I can take a punch and have the speed to cause opponents problems.
"There were times I was boxing four to five times a week. Three times in a month doesn't bother me."
