Stafford's Rob Hunt is taking on all comers
Stafford's Rob Hunt today insisted he's still determined to succeed as a fighter as he prepares for a potential tear-up with Kevin McCauley.
Hunt isn't taking it easy as he looks to rebound from defeat to another Stourbridge combatant, Steven Pearce, at Walsall Town Hall a week on Friday.
Fight night pits the welterweight against a former Midlands champion and well-schooled adversary, who excelled in judo before lacing up the gloves.
The 34-year-old has 69 defeats from 85 pro contests on his paid ledger, but has bags of experience and will not want to be defeated on a home show.
Hunt insists he's refreshed and ready to go again, after six months out of the ring, and is eager to get back to winning ways whatever comes his way.
He said: "You need a bit of time away just to weigh things up and I have had that now. Once boxing is in your blood, there's no getting away from it.
"I thought I was on top against Pearce when he caught me. He hit me flush in the solar plexus and there's nothing you can do about that.
"I was back in the gym a week after the fight s,o although I haven't been in the ring for a few months, I have been keeping myself in good shape.
"Kevin has been in the ring with everyone. He's a tough opponent for me, but I still have that fire inside me to win a title, be it a Midlands or a Masters."
The 28-year-old trains out of the Fight Factory in Stoke, the gym of former European super featherweight title challenger Scott Lawton, alongside Josh McLaren.
The undefeated ace presents a tidy test for fellow welterweight Hunt in sparring and both appear on the Walsall bill, McLaren taking on Lewis van Poetsch.
Hunt said: "Josh is a good boxer. He's technically very good and doesn't waste a shot. I like sparring with him and it's nice to be on the same bill as one of my stable-mates."
Tickets, priced at £30 and £60 ringside, are available from the Town Hall Box Office on 0845 111 2900. The after-show party is at the Pitch Sports Bar and Grill, on Bridge Street in Walsall.
The show will also be aired live and exclusive on BBC WM's DAB Digital Service and online.TA
