Lee Glover comes close to English title win
Tipton's Lee Glover came close to seizing the English super featherweight title from Jon Kays after losing a close decision to the champion.
Their battle for the belt went the full 10 rounds on Saturday night, a gruelling effort for Glover considering he's had one fight in two years.
'The Tipton Slasher' went in as the under-dog against the former Commonwealth title challenger, from Ashton-under-Lyne in Lancashire.
Kays had took control of the first round, a solid right hand setting up combination blows, as Glover tried to dodge with counter punches.
The 26-year-old commanded more of the ring in the second round, the fighters battling to take centre stage in the third and fourth sessions.
Glover tired from the fifth and, at points, held on for a breather to negate the jab, before grabbing a second wind to make it to the final round.
Kays tried to finish it in the 10th but found his opponent in stubborn form, leaving the result with the judges as it went to the three scorecards.
One had Glover level 96-96 but the other two ruled 97-95 and 96-95 in favour of Kays, who retained his crown with a harder-than-expected test.
