Christopher Keane and Lee Glover are back

Walsall's Christopher Keane and Tipton's Lee Glover will return to the ring on the West Midlands' next pro boxing bill at Walsall Town Hall on September 7.

Keane will look to exorcise the demons of his shocking two-round defeat to Neil Dawson at the same venue in May, with a four-round run out on the card.

That halted the Midlands cruiserweight champion's progress, as Dawson retained the WBO International title and silenced the home-town supporters.

The end was nigh after Keane took a devastating counter punch, a hammer of a left hook that nearly put him completely out of the ring through the ropes.

Referee Richie Davies stepped in and allowed Keane the opportunity to answer the count but his feet wouldn't plant, forcing the man in the middle to stop the fight.

It's the first blot on the 27-year-old's 11-fight pro record and was perhaps the biggest setback the 2009 ABA super heavyweight national amateur champion has faced.

It came against a British title challenger just weeks before but, with a dearth of fighters at the weight, Keane could still receive a shot at English champion Matthew Askin.

Keane said: "Everyone has to lose one day and that was my time. It's the way you come back from it that makes you stronger. I have never been dropped before, that was the first time ever.

"It was a shock when my legs went like that, like Bambi! If our paths cross again, I will fight him tomorrow if he wants but he's not going to want to fight me just now.

"He's going on to bigger and better things like the British title. Hopefully, if he wins that, I will meet him down the line."

Glover hasn't boxed since a damaging second round stoppage loss of his own in the featherweight Prizefighter of October 2011 to Choi Tseveenpurev.

Numerous comeback fights have been arranged for 'the Tipton Slasher' without materialising, the last in October one of five dates to have fallen through.

But the 26-year-old has decided now is the time to take boxing seriously again and will know what to expect from his opponent on fight night, Pavels Senkovs.

Mansfield-based Latvian Senkovs was in the other corner for Glover's fourth pro fight in November 2010, going the distance with the Black Country boxer.

Tickets, priced at £30 and £60 ringside, are available from Walsall Town Hall Box Office by calling 0845 111 2900.
