Haye v Fury spot is possible for Martin Gethin
Walsall's Martin Gethin must put up his British title against Anthony Crolla - and the fight could be on the under-card of David Haye's war with Tyson Fury.
The British Boxing Board of Control have put Gethin versus Crolla out to purse bids for August 14, with the lightweight contest to take place by December.
Haye-Fury is on Saturday September 28 at the Manchester Evening News Arena and Crolla, who boxed on a Matchroom Sport bill earlier this month, is hoping to be on the card.
A WBO world title shot against champion Ricky Burns is his top target but a more cost-effective clash with Gethin, for a belt he once held, would also appeal to 'Million Dollar' Crolla.
Gethin does feel like he's being over-looked, due to Crolla's upset win over Gavin Rees and Derry Mathews claiming the Commonwealth belt with a stunning one-punch knockout.
On his Facebook account, Gethin posted: "I think everyone has forgotten about the British champion, 'The Quiet Man,' they don't mention me much.
"My next fight is Crolla, defending my British title. Not a date yet, will keep everyone informed."
Manchester's Crolla impressively outpointed former European and WBA world champion Rees two weeks ago and has held the British and English titles at the weight.
Gethin has yet to defend the belt he won in January with an ninth round stoppage of Ben Murphy, having lost an IBF world title final eliminator to Ammeth Diaz in May.
Taking that fight put paid to a planned British title fight against Tommy Coyle in April and, after he was counted out in five rounds against Diaz, it's back to the domestic scene.
Both Gethin's title win and the Diaz defeat came at Walsall Town Hall with Crolla watching on from ringside each time as a pundit for Frank Warren's television channel, BoxNation.
Coyle took a fight with Mathews instead and was winning the fight until he was felled by a hammer of a left hook in the tenth round, Mathews crowned the Commonwealth champion.
A double title fight with both belts on the line holds no fear for Gethin, who has said in the past that he believes Mathews' chin is "too cracked" for him to pose a realistic threat in the ring.
Mathews, like Crolla, is a former British champion at the weight and has boxed Crolla twice without defeat. He also brings another title to the table, perhaps with the winner facing Crolla.
