Des Bowater vows to be Wolverhampton's best
Des Bowater today claimed he's "going to be the best thing to come out of Wolverhampton" as he prepares for his home fight at the Civic Hall next week.
'The Wednesfield Warrior' competes in his second professional contest at Wolverhampton Civic Hall next Saturday promising big things will happen.
The 21-year-old super featherweight certainly impressed on his paid debut, opening the BoxNation bill at Walsall Town Hall in late May with a points win.
His flawless over-the-distance victory came over tricky Scot Michael Stupart and 'D Bow' now goes up against another game fighter in Bristol's Harvey Hemsley.
Bowater regularly pitted his wits with top-class amateur prospects in national competition during his days representing Steve O'Rourke's Wodensborough ABC.
And the confident stylist believes it's only a matter of time before he's top of the bill in big fights at the Civic, having previously predicted he will win a world title.
He said: "I tell everybody I see that I am going to be the best thing to come out of Wolverhampton.
"I think I have the style, I can fight on the front or back foot and can punch and take a punch.
"It's going to be buzzing at the Civic and plus, being from Wolverhampton, I can build up a following.
"To be in the main event at the Civic one day would be a dream, the atmosphere is unreal."
Hemsley is considered another learning curve in a division that houses several twentysomething quick-hitters, even at small-hall level.
Bowater said: "I have watched him and I know he's going to come forward. My plan is to come forward, pick my shots and get the stoppage.
"I have got a boxing brain, he will run onto my shots and he looks wide open for the big right hand over the top, so I will be looking for that.
"At this weight, it's always a 1,000 shots a round but I think it's more exciting and gives people value for money."
Bowater features on a bill headlined by Dudley's Ryan Aston, 22, who tops a Civic prospects bill with the chance of winning his first title.
'Tank' competes for the International Masters middleweight belt against Portuguese-born Spaniard Yuri Pompilio over 10 rounds.
