Stourbridge's Midlands title rivals weigh in

Champion Pearce and challenger Eggington weighed in for tonight's 10-round contest at the Venue on the Wednesbury Boxing Academy scales.

Pearce took the vacant crown with a fifth-round stoppage of Derby's Luke Gallear at Burton Town Hall in March, as he bounced back from a blow.

Both the 28-year-old and Eggington competed in January's Prizefighter at Wolverhampton Civic Hall but went out at the first hurdle.

And Pearce believes he's in the "shape of his life" as the two combatants duel to avoid a second blemish on their pro record.

He said: "I'm feeling in the shape of my life, I feel sharp and fit. My diet is spot on because I've had a full training camp.

"I have been able to just drop a pound a week, so physically I'm 100 per cent. I have sparred fighters similar to Sam.

"We have a game plan that we will stick to. This is my belt. I'm the champion and that's how I want things to stay.

"I know it will be a tough fight but I'm prepared for that. I'm ready. I hope Sam is."

Eggington,19, has been sparring with British champion Frankie Gavin for the fight, training he believes will help him dethrone the champion.

He said: "In Frankie Gavin, you can't get better sparring for a Midlands title than the current British champion at your weight.

"I don't know who Steven Pearce has been sparring with but he can't have been in with anybody better than Frankie. I think it will make all of the difference.

"I'm feeling really good to be honest. It's a massive night for me and a massive night for Black Country boxing.

"There will be a big crowd there and we both really want it."
