Rob Hunt does his homework on Prizefighter

Stafford's Rob Hunt will study past Prizefighter winners as he prepares for his big chance of stardom to come in the tournament.

Reserve Hunt replaces the injured Karl Place for the third instalment at welterweight of the eight-man, one-night, three-rounds-a-fight competition, live on Sky Sports.

Fellow West Midlanders joining him at Wolverhampton Civic Hall on Saturday night will be Stourbridge's Steven Pearce and Sam Eggington, along with Birmingham's Calum Cooper.

Mark Thompson, Dale Evans, Glenn Foot and Chad Gaynor are also in the running for the trophy and £32,000 winner's cheque, but Hunt just wants to get back on track.

The 27-year-old has seen his career stall since losing his first title shot, a crack at the British Masters title to Ben Lawler in November 2010, boxing just three times since.

But Hunt, with 17 contests, is the second most experienced in the line-up behind Thompson and has done his homework on what will be needed to succeed on fight night.

The gangly Prince Arron used his range to win a light middleweight Prizefighter in February 2010 and Hunt, another six-footer, could well adopt the same game plan.

He said: "Definitely. I think Prince Arron was an outsider but he won it, so he's a big inspiration. I have been looking at how he won it. It gives you confidence.

"Over three rounds, I need to use my long arms and move. I have fast hands and I am super agile. I won't let the opposition walk me down.

"I will find angles and, if I can mix it, I will mix it and jump on them, but I will be clever and box well. You can expect fast hands, lots of work rate, lots of movement.

"There are a mix of styles in this Prizefighter, short stocky boxers, guys with good experience. It is one of those, you have to turn up and do your best.

"I have the right tools to win. I am fast, I can move well and it is three rounds, not 12 rounds, so I can just go for it."

Ringside tickets for Prizefighter at the Civic are sold out, but a limited number of £40 unreserved tickets are still available.

They can be purchased by calling 01277 359 900 or bought online at www.matchroomboxing.com.
