Prizefighter returns to Wolverhampton

Prizefighter is returning to Wolverhampton Civic Hall next month - the day after two British title fights take place just up the road in Walsall.

Matchroom Boxing first brought their eight-man, one-night, three-rounds-a-fight tournament to the Civic in February, which was set at light welter.

They return with a welterweight instalment on Saturday January 19, with Birmingham's talented bantamweight Khalid Yafai also featuring in an added bout.

Dudley's Ryan Aston was another due to compete but the middleweight has been ruled off the bill, after picking up a cut in sparring that won't heal in time.

English super middleweight champion Rocky Fielding will take his place in a non-title bout, ahead of his first defence in his hometown of Liverpool in March.

Already confirmed for Prizefighter is Birmingham's Nasser Al Harbi, undefeated prospects Dale Evans, Glenn Foot and Chad Gaynor, as well as Karl Place.

The night before, Rowley Regis' Jason Welborn challenges British welterweight champion Frankie Gavin in the main event of a card at Walsall Town Hall.

Walsall's Martin Gethin vies for the vacant British lightweight title with Ben Murphy, while fellow hometown fighter Christopher Keane also goes for a belt.

Keane meets former British cruiserweight champion Shane McPhilbin for the Midlands crown, with the show live on Frank Warren's television channel, BoxNation.

Prizefighter will be live on Sky Sports the following evening at the Civic, in what looks likely to be a fantastic weekend for professional boxing in the West Midlands.
