The Wednesbury ABC ace was beaten on a majority points decision by Birtley Boys ABC's Luke McCormack at 57kg in Class B - for fighters born in 1995.

Luke's twin brother, Pat, eliminated Wood from the junior ABA competition earlier this year in a close-run affair and this one also went back and forth.

They split the judges, with three going with McCormack and two for Wood, giving the 'home' fighter yesterday afternoon's decision and a place in the final.

Daniel Breeze was doubly glad to be back in Walsall by the end of the weekend as his dreams of a third national amateur title came to an end on Wearside.

The Walsall Wood ABC fighter went out in the last four of the Clubs for Young People championships at the Nissan Sports and Social Club in Sunderland.

The two-time ABA Schoolboys champion lost a majority points decision to Knowsley Vale ABC's Callum O'Brian at 70kg in Class A - for boxers born in 1996.

The 16-year-old represented the chance of revenge for O'Brian after knocking him out of the Schoolboys two years ago and worked at close range for the win.

To make matters worse, the car that Breeze and trainer Shaun Healy were travelling in broke down on the way back yesterday and the two had to be towed home.
