Cannock's Dave Egan outworked Paul Samuels' son to score his third professional victory at the HMV Institute in Birmingham and stay unbeaten.

The former Chasetown footballer went across the West Midlands to go in with Jerome Samuels, the 19-year-old son of heavy-hitting veteran Paul.

Samuels replaced another Welshman in Joe Smith on Saturday night, who was not cleared by the British Boxing Board of Control in time to fight.

Egan bemoaned the spoiling tactics of his two opponents, Matt Seawright and Danny Dontchev, where he picked up his first two points shut-outs.

But Samuels' was sturdy and worked from a rigid base which invited pressure from Egan, who chipped away at the teenager to force openings.

Such pressure saw Egan break through with, perhaps, his best shot as a pro as yet, a stiff right hook that forced young Samuels on to the back-foot.

All of the time, Egan was the busier of the two and, although he couldn't force a finish before the four rounds expired, it was a sound display.

The 29-year-old accept edthe decision from the referee, Dudley's Shaun Messer, by 40-36 on points and has yet to drop a round as a paid fighter.
