Stourbridge's Steven Pearce and Brierley Hill's Kyle Spencer have been backed to shine in their next pro assignments at Walsall Town Hall.
Stourbridge's Steven Pearce and Brierley Hill's Kyle Spencer have been backed to shine in their next pro assignments at Walsall Town Hall.
Pearce and Spencer are both on the Friday September 21 bill and trainer Shaun Cooper has seen a marked improvement from both in the gym.
Behind-the-scenes at Coops Boxing Camp in Brierley Hill, Cooper has worked with the pair since they both turned over in October of last year.
'Fierce' Pearce - a Midlands champion in the ABA Novices as an amateur - has two fights more paid experience, so is down for a six-rounder.
The 27-year-old welterweight is up against scrapper Billy Smith and has been told to stick to his boxing by trainer Cooper.
He said: "Pearce has really improved and he's banging people around in sparring, but we have got him boxing as well.
"We are getting him away from scrapping now and he will have to in this fight, it's a good stepping stone for him.
"You can dish it out to Billy Smith all day long and he's still going to be in front of you at the end of it."
Spencer is still growing into life as a pro and missed his third fight in June after pulling out with a chest infections.
'The Style' has scored points wins over Aaron Fox and left Rick Boulter with black eyes after their bout in March.
The 22-year-old light middleweight is still an unknown but could be a future Midlands champion, according to Cooper.
He said: "Kyle will shock everybody, once he gets a few more fights under his belt. He's looking really good in the gym.
"He will win a Midlands title, in my opinion, he could come down a weight and he can punch hard as he is.
"He's got a good work-rate but his diet wasn't right for his first fight, we have worked with him on that.
"He even turned up at his first weigh in with no drink and food for after!"
