Cannock's Dave Egan could return to playing football for Chasetown after his double mission as a professional boxer is completed at the end of next month.
Egan is down to fight at the HMV Institute in Birmingham – formerly Digbeth Civic Hall – on September 8, where he faces Welshman Joe Smith.
Barring complications, the 29-year-old welterweight will then take his spot at Wolverhampton Civic Hall after being added to the bill on September 28.
A nagging shoulder injury and the possibility of bloodshed in the first fight is a factor, which could prevent him boxing at the Civic as he plans.
But Egan could fight twice and then return to the footballing trenches with Chasetown, where he played alongside current boss Craig Harris.
Egan, who played 238 games and captained the Scholars over two spells in nine years, hung up his boots at end of the 2010-11 season.
But, following Harris' arrival at the club this summer, the midfielder has signed up as a player on the understanding that boxing comes first.
He said: "As soon as 'Chopper' got the job, he was straight on phone to me and I would love to play for him. He was the best captain ever.
"He knows how dedicated I am to my boxing, I think he's hoping I get knocked out and it makes me want to go back to playing football!
"But he's convinced me to start training with them and convinced me to sign. Inbetween fights, maybe I can play a few games.
"In a few weeks time, you may see me back in a Chasetown shirt."
Egan sold the best part of 200 tickets for both of his two straight professional victories this year, at Walsall Town Hall and then the Civic.
Two shows in quick succession could weaken his drawing power but the popular former Walsall Wood ABC amateur would "fight for free."
He said: "If I get cut or something, I wouldn't be on at the Civic anyway, so I definitely want to sell out the Birmingham show.
"If worst came to the worst, I would fight for free at the Civic if I couldn't do the tickets."
