Rowley Regis' Jason Welborn today admitted he's fighting for his future when he defends his Midlands welterweight title at Wolverhampton Civic Hall.
Welborn puts up his belt for a second time with Derby's Scott Haywood the latest challenger to the crown at the Civic on June 22, live on BoxNation.
The 26-year-old quit his job as a scaffolder earlier this year to concentrate on boxing while studying for an NVQ to become a fitness instructor.
That course has been passed with flying colours and the next test comes in Haywood, a former English champion and Commonwealth title challenger.
And the father-of-one is determined to make his punches pay for his family after putting his heart and soul into the sport.
He said: "My fitness has just gone through the roof and, when I spar, I am feeling a lot stronger.
"There are the lads I have got to put the belt up against and get out of the way, I have set myself goals.
"Come September or October, I am aiming for an English or British title shot, that's what I want.
"I am putting all of my time and effort into it and I can't play at it, as I have got a family to support.
"There are some good kids in this division but this is my living, so they are taking food from my table.
"You have got to take chances to get up there with them all."
Welborn has proved himself as a fighting champion since taking less than three rounds to rip the belt from Sean McKervey last November.
Haywood is capable but Welborn took out McKervey's Coventry compatriot and another stylist, James Flinn, in round five of his first defence in March.
With that in mind, the Black Country puncher is determined to prove his power over skill for the second fight in a row.
He said: "My advantage on most fighters is my power, let's see if he has got the chin to handle that.
"I looked him up on You Tube and he's a flicker, just tapping with his punches, I only watched two rounds!
"Flinn was a boxer and he's the same kind but he's got a lot more experience, with that long frame he has.
"He's will look to counter punch and go the distance and we have been working on that in the gym.
"My fitness is there to go the 10 rounds and I will look to keep it on him."
