Walsall's Martin Gethin left the Peterborough Arena with the International Masters title - and a swollen eye that could put his next fight in doubt.

Despite a below-par performance, Gethin was declared the victor after 10 rounds with Slovakian visitor Ivan Godor in a 98-95 points call.

The two-time English lightweight champion had boxed patiently and used his jab effectively to see out the fight and pick up the win last night.

But his left eye was almost completely closed after the contest and Gethin is due back in the ring in just 13 days time at Wolverhampton Civic Hall.

The BoxNation-televised bill could go on without him, but no decision will be made until the swelling has gone down and the 28-year-old is assessed.
