Civic Prizefighter a complete sell out
Wolverhampton Civic Hall was today confirmed as a complete sell-out for Prizefighter with two Black Country fighters set to compete.
Wolverhampton Civic Hall was today confirmed as a complete sell-out for Prizefighter with two Black Country fighters set to compete.
West Bromwich's Young Mutley will join Wolverhampton's Dean Harrison in the eight-man, one-night event, live on Sky Sports on February 11.
Mutley, along with Telford's Mark Lloyd and former British champion Barry Morrison, are the last three names to be picked.
They join Harrison, English title holder Adil Anwar, John Watson, Tyrone Nurse and Dale Miles in the light welterweight tournament.
Promoters Matchroom Sport are taking Prizefighter out of London for only the fourth time to come to the Civic.
And, in their previous forays away from the capital, they have only gone to big cities in Newcastle, Glasgow and Liverpool.
However, Matchroom managing director Eddie Hearn believes he's saved the "best line-up" yet for Wolverhampton.
He said: "I think this is the best line-up we have had in Prizefighter so far.
"Every one of the eight quality performers in the mix on February 11 will believe they can win.
"That promises to make it a special night in front of a packed crowd at the Civic Hall."
The eight fighters, most of whom have boxed at anywhere from lightweight to light middle, will be expected to make 10st 2lb on the night.
Mutley is the only one with Prizefighter experience at the weight, having competed in the last instalment at light welter in December 2009.
The former British welterweight champion was eliminated by Colin Lynes in the semi-final, with Morrison pulling out before the tournament began.
Harrison is new to Prizefighter but has boxed on the big stage, having lost a British title shot against Paul McCloskey in March 2009.
'Deano' went for the English title the following year but was outpointed by Nigel Wright and hasn't been seen on Sky Sports since.
The card will also feature two 'Prizefighter Prospects,' who will box outside of the tournament to showcase their talents.
Dudley's Ryan Aston and Coseley's Tommy Ghent, who signed three-year promotional deals with Matchroom in September, open the show.
Middleweight Aston is undefeated in four, with one stoppage, while welterweight Ghent has took out both of his opponents in two rounds.
