West Bromwich's Adam Corbett hit the road and ruined the professional debut of Sean Sinnott by stopping the hometown hero on his own turf.
Corbett, who made his pro debut with a points win over James Tucker at Walsall Town Hall in June, went hell for leather to force an end to the fight in the fifth of six scheduled rounds.
From the opening bell at Coventry's Hilton Hotel on Saturday night, Corbett appeared to land on the debutant at will, the 6ft 2ins light heavyweight enjoying a clear height advantage.
The pressure told in the fifth round but there didn't appear to be maximum contact in the blow that scored the first knockdown, a glancing punch that seemed to knock Sinnott off balance.
That forced an answered mandatory count of eight but there could be no mistaking the second shot, a right hook that sent Sinnott careering into the corner, where he was beaten to the ground.
Wolverhampton's rookie referee Gareth Morris, with Terry O'Connor looking on as fight supervisor, had seen enough and ended the contest, 59 seconds into round five.
Walsall's evergreen veteran Delroy Spencer also gave Coventry's Dougie Walton a fight, in the third time the two super bantamweights have clashed.
Spencer hadn't taken a round in their meetings in 2007 and September of this year but won the third session, only to lose the fourth.
However, referee Morris ruled the 43-year-old, competing for the 143rd time as a pro, had lost the first two rounds to be outpointed by 39-37.
