Birmingham City boss Gianfranco Zola resigns - VIDEO
Birmingham City have confirmed that boss Gianfranco Zola has resigned following the club's loss to Burton Albion, with the club looking to hire a replacement in the coming days.
The Italian took over at the club following the shock sacking of Gary Rowett, and has won just 9% of his games in charge.
Birmingham City confirmed the move made by the boss via their club website.
"The futures of Gianfranco's backroom team – Pierluigi Casiraghi, Gabriele Cioffi, Kevin Hitchcock, Andrea Caronti and Sebastiano Porcu – will be decided in due course." Read the statement.
"Birmingham City would like to place on record their thanks to Gianfranco for his efforts."
"The club will seek to appoint a new manager within the next few days."
"No further comment will be made at this time."
Zola's last win came in the 2-1 victory over Wolves on February 24th, but has overseen Blues' decline from battling for the playoffs to relegation survival.
Following the defeat to Burton, the club sit 20th in the Championship, just three points clear of the drop zone.
Former Leicester City and Derby County boss Nigel Pearson is the bookies' favourite to step into the role, with Alex Neil and Aitor Karanka also in the running.
Blues' next game is up against local rivals Aston Villa, who they face at Villa Park on Sunday.
Following that game, the relegation-threatened outfit face huge games against Huddersfield Town and Bristol City as they aim to preserve their place in the Championship.
